James has presentations on many topics surrounding his life journey and attachment theory. Further details are below.
James Adams was brought up in Coventry, and is a graduate of the Universities of Durham (BA) and Bristol (MA) focussing on American Studies and Theology. He later transitioned from the Anglican ministry to a career in education, where he became the Head of Religious & Social Studies for over twenty years in a large 6th form centre, teaching three ‘A’ levels.
He authored the psychological football memoir ‘Attached to Coventry City’ - and also ‘Passionate - the psychology of a passionate life’ which reflects his deep interest in Attachment theory and its implications for mental health. Outside of writing, James enjoys reading, exploring American politics, supporting Coventry City F.C., dancing and travelling.
Do you ever feel confused, depressed or anxious? Do you think that you are going through some sort of crisis? Do you seem at odds with your partner, friends or work colleagues? But you can’t understand why this is happening? If so, Passionate will shed some light, as its author has experienced all these things and more besides, and has survived to tell the tale.
Through the lens of Attachment Theory, Passionate takes the reader on a journey through James' life, from football fan to Christian minister and finally to realising healthy self-attachment.
Passionate is not a quick fix for people unwilling to look within but it does show how positive mental health can be achieved through a better understanding of what is going on in our lives and why. So, strap yourself in for a ride that might change your life!
Highly Recommended by Prof. Jeremy Holmes MD, University of Exeter - a leading authority on Attachment theory:
“James Adams’ touching, well-written, accessible book . . . . . . sets it head and shoulders above similar accounts [of psychological and spiritual trauma]. Strongly recommended to readers interested in religion, sex, marriage, divorce, football and the arts – i.e. almost everyone.”
"A Must Read. Couldn’t put this book down. A real insight into one man’s struggle to understand the effects of life’s events. I hope to read more of James Adams’ work in the future." - Jill, Waterstones Reader
"A Rollercoaster Searching for Understanding. Unlike most journeys looking to make sense of life Adams pauses after each period and sets out his analysis of what was happening. This is makes it much easier to follow. His courage in sharing so much about himself leads the reader to want to know what happened next.. His thorough explorations combined with an interesting writing style make this a good read." - Brian, Waterstones Reader
